Opinion | An open letter to Mr. Biden

Mr. Joe Biden, President of the largest democracy in the world:

Greetings from a middle eastern citizen.

Days ago, the world media reported the killing of a terrorist in Afghanistan, but this time this piece of news was dull and did not come as a surprise and it did not arouse people’s curiosity in the Middle East, perhaps because this type of targets has become boring in our region or the theater is no longer attractive people, and perhaps the text of the play seems trivial if it is compared with more recent versions.

It was really appalling to talk about the assassination of one journalist and to remain silent about the slaughter of an entire people in Syria

I regret to tell you that it is a puppet theater and it is no longer entertaining. I do not understand why the United States of America insists on making puppets and then eliminating them. This distorts the image of the United States as the democratic dream of the peoples of the region. Just days ago, you, Joe Biden, were in the region and met with its leaders. You said a lot but did nothing. It was really appalling to talk about the assassination of one journalist and to remain silent about the slaughter of an entire people in Syria. Do you see that as a normal thing? I do not understand how the American democracy works. Is it concerned with killing a person and neglecting the killing of a million people, including journalists, doctors, engineers, men, women and children. I think that this matter needs a greater explanation from your side.

The biggest and most recent model of democracy that your country made was Iraq, the country next to Syria. Do you really need us to tell you where is Iraq today? Perhaps the CIA is better than us to explain to you how it established and supported the militias until the last two months of Trump’s rule, and how these militias moved to Syria under American auspices, and that began when your country’s government agreed with the Iranian regime to exclude Mr. Allawi, who won the Iraqi elections and instead al-Maliki (you know better who is this guy) was appointed.

How do you judge someone is a terrorist? Is Bashar Assad, according to your values, a terrorist or not? Is Ali Khamenei a terrorist or not?

Michal Adawi

I would like to make it clear to you that during all my life ( 6 decades so far), I have not found a difference between the two parties in the USA when when it comes to the Middle East. The invasion of Iraq was a crime that is only paralleled by the crime of non-interference in Syria and the cessation of the terrible massacres against the defenceless people. The criminal Assad’s weapons of mass destruction and his relationship with Iranian terrorism are public and the US Administration refused to interfere. Yes, with regard to us in the region, there is no difference between a Republican and a Democrat. We are always victims.

How do you judge someone is a terrorist? Is Bashar Assad, according to your values, a terrorist or not? Is Ali Khamenei a terrorist or not? Is Hezbollah’s Hassan Nasrallah a terrorist or not? Are Iranian militia leaders in Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Lebanon terrorists or not?

Dear Mr. Biden,

I and most of the people I know in the Arab region are no longer waiting for help from you after we have seen how you behave in our region and how you support all dictatorships and regimes of military rulers. We have just one small wish: Could you please stop lying in the name of democracy?
