Hafez Assad’s ‘Corrective Movement’: Mother of Syria’s evil

The Assad regime continues its decades-old tradition of celebrating the anniversary of what has been called the “Corrective Movement,” a Syrian national holiday that marks the ascension to power of Hafez Assad. As usual, the occasion is marked by celebrations and public demonstrations of support for the government in Damascus as well as other cities and towns that continue to be Assad strongholds. Important loyalists visit the burial place of Hafez Assad in his coastal hometown of Al Qardahah.

THE “VICTORY” OF HAFEZ ASSAD ACHIEVED BY KIDNAPPING THE RULE OF LAW IN SYRIA IN 1970 WAS CALLED THE “CORRECTIVE MOVEMENT” IN ORDER TO CLOTHE THE POLITICAL IMMORALITY OF HIS ACTIONS WITH THE DRESS OF NATIONAL HONOR

After gaining its independence in 1946, Syria witnessed several successive military coups carried out by military figures who differed in their regional and international ties during the throes of Israel’s birth in 1948. Therefore, some deemed it necessary to establish a Syrian regime with the outward appearance of political acuity (while in its interior, totalitarian and fascist) in order to set the compass of the country on the rhythm of Israeli expansion and the acquisition of more border lands with abundant water resources, agricultural plains, and mountainous masses that further fortified the fledgling Zionist state.

The “victory” of Hafez Assad achieved by kidnapping the rule of law in Syria in 1970 was called the “Corrective Movement” in order to clothe the political immorality of his actions with the dress of national honor. And this big lie is still rotting the body of Syria and killing its children.

HAFEZ WAS IN REALITY A BRUTAL DICTATOR WHO RULED WITH AN IRON FIST AND A MILITARY BOOT THAT ABORTED THE FREEDOM AND DIGNITY OF AN ENTIRE PEOPLE UNDER THE SLOGAN OF MODERN SYRIA

Since Assad staged his military coup, the anniversary of the “Corrective Movement” has become a national holiday considered to be superior to every other national holiday due to its glorification of “the leader” Hafez Assad whom the people were told would “reign forever.” Hafez was in reality a brutal dictator who ruled with an iron fist and a military boot that aborted the freedom and dignity of an entire people under the slogan of modern Syria.

SYRIA TODAY IS A FAILED STATE IN SPITE OF ITS CONTINUING CELEBRATION OF A DECEPTIVE NATIONAL HOLIDAY

After Hafez died in 2000, his inner circle worked in secret to ensure that the presidency of Syria would be passed on to his son Bashar as an inheritance. In turn, Bashar continued the “Corrective Movement” by eventually surpassing his father in murder and criminality, and exceeding him in brutality. In 2011, when the Syrian people finally rose up after having enough of decades of being subjected to corruption, brutality, brainwashing, and propaganda from cradle to grave, Bashar used his “corrective” tactics of murder, arbitrary arrest, torture, starvation, and displacement to reduce the population of Syria by half.

As a result of the current “president’s corrections,” Syria today is a failed state in spite of its continuing celebration of a deceptive national holiday.
