Malik is a nine-year-old Syrian child lying on a pile of shells outside the city of Maaret Misrin in northwestern Syria in Idlib countryside.

The child is a member of a Syrian family displaced four years ago from the village of Latamneh in the northern Hama countryside. The family found in collecting and selling scrap metal, including unexploded shells and used ammunition casings, a way to earn their daily bread.
Malik is always doing his share of the work. He is arranging mortar shells his family members found and dismantled before selling their iron.
