Will Assad publicly normalize relations with Israel?

Secret normalization between the Assad regime and Israel has existed since 1976 due to an unofficial agreement between Assad and Kissinger. The regime followed it up by exporting oil directly from Syria’s Banyas to Haifa, and many Syrians know about this.

However, normalization between the Syrian people on the one hand, and the Israeli people on the other, could have taken place in 2012 as a result of the huge injustice and oppression of the Assad regime and its ongoing killing of Syrians. At that time, many Syrians felt that the solution was in the Israeli hand as it turned out to be in their minds less evil than the Assad regime although Palestine and Jerusalem have a very dear place in the Syrian conscience.

Facts began to emerge in 2017 that Israel was almost publicly supportive of Assad’s survival

Many Syrians felt that hostility towards Israel could have ended had it stood with the Syrian people against the Assad regime and Iran. But unfortunately, Israel was secretly on the side of the regime. Facts began to emerge in 2017 that Israel was almost publicly supportive of Assad’s survival.

Can public normalization happen now between Assad and Israel? No. This is not possible, because this file has become Iran’s hand as a result of its control over the region. This control will be complete in the coming years if the Iranian project remains in place and no one prevents, fights, or seriously resists it.

The repetition of words like “Al-Aqsa” and “Quds” (Jerusalem) in the Mullah’s discourse is something that the Iranians are keen on spreading

Iran will also pursue its project of control over the Gulf States and will then be on Israel’s borders from all sides. It will promote its propaganda of “anti-imperialism” and “resistance” and declare that it will liberate Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, emphasizing that Al-Aqsa matters more to the Muslim peoples of East Asia, specifically Iran, than to the Arab peoples now. The repetition of words like “Al-Aqsa” and “Quds” (Jerusalem) in the Mullah’s discourse is something that the Iranians are keen on spreading.

Iran will therefore use its control over the Assad regime to not allow the regime to publicly normalize relations with Israel. That is why confrontation will escalate, mainly for media consumption, which is necessary to win over Muslims in the Far East and in the Middle East.

To cut a long story short, the normalization file with Israel will never return to Assad’s hand as Iran now has the final say in the internal and external affairs of the regime.
